Search tips

apple banana
Find rows that contain at least one of the two words.

+apple +juice
Find rows that contain both words.

+apple macintosh
Find rows that contain the word 'apple', but rank rows higher if they also contain 'macintosh'.

+apple -macintosh
Find rows that contain the word 'apple' but not 'macintosh'.

+apple ~macintosh
Find rows that contain the word 'apple', but if the row also contains the word 'macintosh', rate it lower than if row does not. This is "softer" than a search for '+apple -macintosh', for which the presence of 'macintosh' causes the row not to be returned at all.

+apple +(>turnover >strudel)
Find rows that contain the words 'apple' and 'turnover', or 'apple' and 'strudel' (in any order), but rank 'apple turnover' higher than 'apple strudel'.

apple*
Find rows that contain words such as 'apple', 'apples', 'applesauce', or 'applet'.

"some words"
Find rows that contain the exact phrase 'some words' (for example, rows that contain 'some words of wisdom' but not "some noise words").

Create VectorCAST License Restrictions

Last updated: 2019-10-02
Question:

How can I create restrictions on which clients/users can check out a VectorCAST license?

Answer:

The FLEXlm utility that is used for license management of the VectorCAST product allows the ability to create an options (.opt) file, which allows the license administrator to control various operating parameters of FLEXlm.  Specifically the license administrator can:

  • Allow the use of features based on user, hostname, or display name.
  • Deny the use of features based on user, hostname, or display name.
  • Reserve licenses based on user, hostname, or display name.
  • Control the amount of information logged about license usage.

Lines in the options file are limited to 4000 characters. The "\" character is a continuation character in options file lines.

The options file can be created anywhere, and added to the DAEMON line of the VectorCAST license using the syntax: OPTIONS=C:\VCAST\flexlm\vector.opt

Replace C:\VCAST\flexlm\vector.opt with actual path and file name as needed.

If you are setting up options for multiple users or hosts, the typical options file would first define the groups, and then specify to include, exclude, or reserve using those groups.

Each line of the file controls one option. The following are some of the options:

EXCLUDE   featurename  type  {name | group_name}

-> deny a user access to a feature.

EXCLUDEALL   type  {name | group_name}

-> deny a user access to all features served by this vendor daemon.

GROUP  groupname  usernamelist

-> define a group of users for use with any options.

HOST_GROUP  groupname  hostnamelist

-> define a group of hosts for use with any options.

INCLUDE  featurename  type  {name | group_name}

-> allow a user to use a feature.

INCLUDEALL  type {name | group_name}

-> allow a user to use all features served by this vendor daemon.

RESERVE num_lic featurename  type  {name | group_name}

-> reserves licenses for a user

NOTE: There is a specific option for case sensitivity in option files, however it may only be relevant to certain versions of FLEXlm.  The option is: GROUPCASEINSENSITIVE OFF|ON

If set to ON, user names and host names specified with the options file GROUP and HOST_GROUP keywords, respectively, are treated as case insensitive. The option is OFF by default.

More detail on the options file can be found in the FlexNet Publisher license Administration Guide that ships with VectorCAST and is also available on the website.
