How to Flash VN8900 / VT6000 / VN8810 Image

This article describes how to flash the image to a VN8900 series interface, aVT6000 module or a VN8810 intelligent diagnostic device.

Note:

An update or recovery of the operating system will delete all licenses that are based on the Vector License Client (New Vector License Model). Please use the Vector License Client to deactivate all licenses on the device before proceeding. See Knowledge Base article How to Deactivate a License For Transfer and Vector License Client Manual.

Hardware Based Licenses are not affected. If in doubt, please contact Vector Support.

If your device is not reachable anymore, please flash the image and request a New Vector License via Vector Support.

You can get the latest Vector License Client including manual from the Vector Download Center.

Select your product:

Disconnect VN8910(A) from power supply

Remove Plug-In Module (VN8950/VN8970), therefore unscrew the two mounting screws to loosen the Plug-In Module in the Base Module

Connect the VN8910(A) to your computer via the Mini-USB port

Start the tool Vector Platform Manager, which can be found in Windows Start | All programs | Vector Platform Manager.

Select Update in the General section of the Vector Platform Manager to start the VN89Flash utility. The program needs administrative rights, please acknowledge the respective pop-up.

Choose the VN8910(A)’s image file provided by Vector using the Search… button. Make sure the correct storage medium of the device is chosen, the medium name must be VN8900Sys. The drive letter depends on the existing drives of your PC and can differ from the screenshot.

Click Update to start the flash process.

After flashing the image, please remove the Mini-USB cable from the VN8910(A). Insert the Plug-In Module also and connect the power- and USB cable. It will take about two minutes until the VN8910(A) will be recognized again in the Vector Hardware Config, due to one additional automatic reboot which is necessary to finalize the installation process.

If the license was deactivated before flashing the device reactivate the license again. See Knowledge Base article How to Activate My New Vector CANoe Licenses and Vector License Client Manual

Install latest Vector Driver Setup on your PC and the VN8910(A) device as the image may not contain the latest drivers.

Remove CFast Card

Insert the CFast card into the CFast reader which was delivered with the VN8911/VN8912/VN8912A/VN8914:

After flashing the image to the CFast card, please remove the card from the card reader and insert it into the VN8911/VN8912/VN8912A/VN8914 again. Insert the Plug-In Module also and connect the power- and USB cable. It will take about two minutes until the VN8911/VN8912/VN8912A/VN8914 will be recognized again in the Vector Hardware Config, due to one additional automatic reboot which is necessary to finalize the installation process.

Please power-off and unplug the VT6000 Series module from the VT case and connect your computer with the USB Firmware Port on the front side:

Start the tool Vector Platform Manager, which can be found in Windows Start | All programs | Vector Platform Manager. Select Update in the General section of the Vector Platform Manager to start the VN89Flash utility. The program needs administrative rights, please acknowledge the respective pop-up.

Choose the VT6000 image file provided by Vector using the Search… button. Make sure the correct storage medium of the device is selected, the medium name must be VT6000Sys. The drive letter depends on the existing drives of your PC and can differ from the screenshot.

Click Update to start the flash process.

When the flash process is finished, disconnect the USB cable and re-plug the VT6000 Series module into your VT case again. Re-plug also all ethernet and PCIe cables, power-on the VT System and wait for about 8 minutes.

After that try to connect to the IP address 192.168.100.1 via remote desktop or via CANoe (Configuration | Extensions | CANoe RT) to be sure that the VT6000 Series module is reachable again.

If the connect was successful, you can use the VT6000 Series module again.

Remove the LED side cover

Insert the CFast card into the CFast reader:
