Connecting Digital Outputs of Vector Hardware

When working with digital outputs of Vector hardware it is important to check whether the output is of type push-pull or open drain (open collector).

The digital out of the VN1630A/VN1640A for example is an open drain and not a push-pull digital out.

Hence, it is required to use an external voltage supply.

The open drain output can be used to drive a high side load. Check the specific device datasheet for actual values of maximum load current and maximum external supply voltage (i.e. the maximum current for VN1630A/VN1640A digital output is 500 mA).

To use the open drain output as a control signal, an external pull up resistor should be used. A typical value is 10 kOhm.

Note:

The actual specifications are interface dependent.

For maximum current, voltage and exact pin layout please refer to the most recent technical documentation of the corresponding interface (driver disk).
