VectorCAST Prompts “Cannot Back Up Directory” when Updating an Environment

Issue:
When attempting to update an environment, VectorCAST prompts that it "cannot back up directory".
Solution:

This error message typically indicates that there may be a runaway process running in the background, or that you have a Windows explorer window or a shell open inside the environment directory. The VectorCAST processes that could have a lock are:
 

clicast.exe
clicover.exe
edgfe.exe
enviro.exe
enviroedg.exe
maint.exe
manage.exe
quickparse.exe
reparse.exe
renexeqt.exe
vcast_diag.exe
vcastqt.exe
vcd2xml.exe
vcpp.exe
UUT_INTE.EXE
UUT_INST.EXE

 

If your environment is running on an RSP target, it is also possible that there is an execution command spawned by the target that may also have the environment locked.
 

If you are using a ClearCase integration, we generally recommend to users to use the ClearCase snapshot view instead of the dynamic view. The reason being is that, with the dynamic view, it constantly reads off of the network and uses more resources that are dependencies while using VectorCAST. This can result in delays, and files can still be determined to be in use when attempting to back them up during the rebuilding process. When using the snapshot view, it pulls everything local to the machine and uses less resources, resulting in speed increases.
 

The best way to troubleshoot this is to use Windows Process Explorer.
